Sharing with Dr. Neill Barr #4 : UNBOXING RESEARCH'S TOOLS

Saturday, October 31 2020 Dr. Neill and I had an online meeting to discuss the research tools I had acquired. Lucky for me, I was able to borrow air rotameter water from my college Here's the photo:

I also showed the rotameter water that I got to Dr. Neill.  Dr. Neill said the rotameter water that I got turned out to have a bigger capacity than I needed. The specifications I get are 0.5-5 GPM, equivalent to 2-18 LPM. While the recommended and better to use is 0.1-10 LPM. But before that, Dr. Neill also allows if it has a capacity of 5.0 - 50 LPM.

But still, it is better between 0.1 - 10 LPM. This is because according to Dr. The resulting Neill bubbles will be bigger and more numerous.

"But it's okay just keep trying it," said Dr. Neill

So I will continue the research. Besides that, I also make DIY from the flower pot that Dr. Neill recommends. My second mistake was that the material I used turned out to be plastic. Of course, it has to be changed to a heavier material so that the DIY, which functions as a micro diffuser, remains under the experimental pool.

After the discussion, Dr. Neill recommends additional tools needed for later research :

Tubing (6mm to 8mm)

Its use from the compressor to air rotameter and from air rotameter to an air stone

Air Stone

Air stone can be changed by DIY ‘ceramic’ (it’s optional)

Small aquarium air pump

Dr. Neill said that the size of the pump it must be minimum pressure 0.3-0.5 bar) otherwise, it can’t push air down to three meters underwater. No air will come out of the diffuser.

Need A Smaller Air Rotameter

This is optional and Dr. Neill said just try the big one.

Small Control Valve

This can control the bubbles for the big air rotameter I already have

One more thing, I am very grateful for my team in the Student Creativity Week competition towards the national level or what is called "PIMNAS 33". The competition will be held online at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). For the next meeting, I will do a virtual presentation exercise with Dr. Neill and Bang Rama.

Wish me luck guys!!

See you later~
